"Healthy teeth and gums can promote a healthier immune system"
Recent studies show there is a LINK between gum disease and certain medical conditions such as:
Diabetes
Heart Disease
Stroke
Obesity
and More
Regular removal of bacteria in the mouth reduces the chance of Aspiration Pneumonia: A common occurance in the elderly or those who are inactive, confined to bed or dependent on medical equipment.
Regular visits by a dental hygienist can:
Detect the early signs of gum disease
Remove bad bacteria from under the gums
Detect harmful infections
Reduce decay by the use of Fluorides and Sealants
Reduce halitosis
Improve oral comfort
Improve overall health
What is an RDHAP?
An RDHAP is a Registered Dental Hygienist in Alternative Practice. This is a dental hygienist who has completed additional training enabling Him/Her to practice outside the traditional dental office setting.
Who do RDHAPs treat?
We treat a variety of people in a variety of settings. Patients with "Special Needs" generally do not have access to dental care, because their illness restricts their ability to visit a dental office. They might be frail
or elderly with no transportation, live in a facility type setting, need to be on medical equipment or have any temporary or permanent injury or medical condition that their physician believes restricts their access to dental care.
How often should I have my hygienist visit?
We treat patients as frequently as every month, but generally every three months for most adult patients.
Why so often?
Because the patient with "Special Needs" already faces many challenges on a daily basis and oral health can be overlooked. The regular removal of bacteria under the gums can improve overall health and help reduce the incidence of decay, pain and harmful infections that can complicate their already compromised medical condition.
